Kathmandu City Tour Itinerary

8:30 Am. to 9 Am. Short drive and walk to Old Kathmandu Durbar

Morning after breakfast, our city and cultural guide receives your for a short drive to the heart of Kathmandu city. Walk through main city market to reach the Old Durbar Square, also known as Hanuman Dhoka. The areas a huge plaza steeped with historical and religious monuments, stands the old palace of past Centuries. Established during Malla Kingdom from 9th to 17th Century, the official throne and palace, from Malla Kings to Shah Regime.

The guide will take you to visit the residence of Kumari, regarded as a Living Goddess. The visit the old Royal Palace which is a museum at present and enjoy walking around the Royal Courtyard. Close to the old palace stands an old Temple of Bhairab called Kasthamandap, where Kathmandu city name derived from. Means a temple made from a wood of a single tree.

10:30 Am. to 11 Am. Drive to Swyambhunath / Monkey Temple.

From here drive west of city area to Swyambhunath Stupa, located on a hillock amidst a small forested hill. Also known as Monkey Temple, due to many Rhesus Monkey inhabits around the Old Swyambhunath a Buddhist religious site. One of the famous landmark of the country, the history of more than 2,500 old monument. An exciting site with panoramic views of Kathmandu city and the valley.

12 Pm. to 12: 30 Pm. Drive and visit Pashupatinath Temple.

After a pleasant tour a short drive to the east of Kathmandu city at holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath. Revered as the holiest of all holy site for Hindu followers, the golden roofed temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Once a year a great festival takes place on the auspicious day of ‘Shiva Ratri’ the birth anniversary of Lord Shiva.

1 Pm. to 1: 30 Pm.

Drive to Bouddhanath Stupa having lunch break in a nice Restaurant. From Pashupatinath, a short drive to an interesting area of Bouddhanath, also called as Little Tibet. Due to large population of Tibetan origin people who resides around Bouddhanath Town area. An exciting place for interesting tour after having good lunch in one of its fine restaurants balcony.

2 Pm. to 3:30 Pm.

Full Tour of Bouddhanath and the monasteries and drive back to Hotel. Bouddhanath a large Dome shaped Stupa of three tiers high with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. Enjoy the tour of Bouddhanath Stupa and its huge complex with various Buddhist monasteries of great religious and cultural interest.

4 p.m.

End of Kathmandu City Tour. After a pleasant and enjoyable tour of Kathmandu, back to the hotel after a great and interesting Kathmandu City Tour.

  • When is the festival held in Bouddhanath Stupa?

    The main festivals in and around Bouddhanath Stupa is on Lord Buddha’s birth anniversary. Takes place on auspicious time of full moon during end of April or first week of May as per Buddhist Lunar Calendar. The other festival is Sherpa and Tamang New Year called Sonam and Gyalbo Losar, held during January, or end of February according to Tibetan Buddhist Calendar.
  • What is the big festival called held in Pashupatinath Temple?

    The big main festival called Shiva Ratri, the birth Anniversary of Lord Shiva falls during February. As per Hindu Lunar Calendar, thousands of Hindu devotees of Lord Shiva and pilgrims. From Indian and all over Nepal visits on this day, for worship, prayers and offering with religious rites.
  • Are non-Hindu, Buddhist allowed to visit inside temple and monasteries?

    For non-Hindu are not allowed to enter the main premises of Pashupatinath Temple. But can observe the religious activities opposite side of holy Baghmati River. As for visiting Buddhist monasteries all religions and faith is allowed to enter abiding special rules as set by the monastery.

However, the only expenses will be for personal interest for soft drinks and other refreshment and lunch.
