Introduction

RP Adventures presents one of the most exciting adventures to the Kanchenjunga North and South Base Camp Trek. It is an exciting, scenic, and worth the experience of visiting the remote parts of Nepal and the Far Eastern Himalayan region. An exclusive country walk that takes you from the low mid-hills to higher mountainous areas covered in lush green vegetation. Lined with tall trees of various species of flowering rhododendron, pines, and firs in the close backdrop of stunning snow peaks.

There are few treks around the Nepal Himalayas where one can enjoy visiting both the North and South Base Camps of one single mountain. Just on a single journey, makes Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking even more special than other normal mainstream adventures. Mt. Kanchenjunga stands high at 8,586 m (28,169) feet as the world’s third- highest mountain with its five main peaks. The first ascent by British Expedition, led by the late legendary Sir George Band, on May 25th, 1955.

From then on, Mt. Kanchenjunga is often climbed from its South Base Camp at Oktang and Tseram. Where our adventure leads is near its South Base Camp, and then heading towards the other side. To reach the North Base Camp at Pang Pema, the highest point of the journey. The beauty of Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking is venturing around remote and isolated areas with traditional farm villages. As the walk progresses, leaving behind far from human settlement towards the sheer wilderness of arid and barren landscapes.

Walking around fields of snow and glaciers, amidst giant mountains, a great contrast from green hills to arctic zone landscapes. The other charm of the trek is walking into lovely woods and villages festooned with age-old cultures. Walk along with great dramatic scenery of hills, valleys, and constant views of towering snow-capped peaks. Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking starts with a sweeping scenic flight to land at Nepal’s lowest flat land of the Terai belt.

Then an exciting overland journey towards the mid-hills, reaching Illam town, famous for its tea and vast sea of tea gardens. The drive ends at the starting point of trekking at Suketar or further, and then on a mountain trail. Walking past lovely villages and farms, crossing streams, and into dense forest to reach Tseram near Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. Having ample time to explore its scenic areas, and then adventure leads to the other northern side of Kanchenjunga. Crossing over the smaller passes of Mirgin, Sinion, and Sele-La to reach Ghunsa around lovely villages.

The higher side of Kanchenjunga is populated by mountain tribes, the Sherpa and Bhotias, of strong Buddhist culture. Slowly, our adventure takes you higher up towards the arid and barren mountainous country at Pang Pema. Where Kanchenjunga North Base Camp is located, at the highest point of the trek, facing the stupendous scenery of the massif Kanchenjunga peaks. After an enjoyable moment of great, marvelous experience, return journey on an alternative route to reach Suketar at Taplejung.

Our trek concludes with a drive to the low-land areas of Terai at Bhadrapur Airport. For a scenic short flight back to Kathmandu after a glorious adventure and wonderful experience on Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking.

What Our Travellers' Say about Kanchenjunga North and South Base Camp Trek

Petra Gluk
Trekking Touristen Nepal März 2022

We, whole family, were in Nepal from mid-March to early April. My 1st trekking holiday ever, right in Nepal! The Tsum Valley and the Manaslu Circuit with a pass crossing (5106 m!) was our goal and thanks to our unique guide Rajan Neupane with his many years of experience (knows all the accommodations and has a great network) everything worked out very well.

Perfect organization: from the moment we arrived in Kathmandu we didn’t have to worry about anything: sightseeing tour, accommodation, jeep/bus rides (an experience), food ❤️, day tours with adjustment to the altitude (perfect), medical care (everything included, great expertise, even with my knee problem after the downhill passages, Rajan helped me very sensitively and excellently). The whole time I felt very comfortable and very well looked after. In difficult passages for me (hanging bridges at the beginning, now no longer a problem, scree sections, snow fields (pass crossing) Rajan accompanied me firmly by the hand and with his positive energy.

Thank you again.

My most impressive moment was in the Tsum Valley, which is still very authentic, we were probably the first tourists for a long time since Corona, near Nyle: arrived in the drizzle in the evening (completely forgot that we were so close to the high mountains) and at 5 o’clock, bam! my view of my 1st 5000er, snow-covered at sunrise. Magical! I myself at 3,500 m, then it becomes completely normal. Otherwise we went skiing in the Alps, 3,000 m is super high there! Come again! My next destination is the EBC, Everst up close. Fall next year would be great.
Trekking in Nepal with Rajan is highly recommended!!!
