RP Adventures presents one of the most exciting adventures to the Kanchenjunga North and South Base Camp Trek. It is an exciting, scenic, and worth the experience of visiting the remote parts of Nepal and the Far Eastern Himalayan region. An exclusive country walk that takes you from the low mid-hills to higher mountainous areas covered in lush green vegetation. Lined with tall trees of various species of flowering rhododendron, pines, and firs in the close backdrop of stunning snow peaks.
There are few treks around the Nepal Himalayas where one can enjoy visiting both the North and South Base Camps of one single mountain. Just on a single journey, makes Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking even more special than other normal mainstream adventures. Mt. Kanchenjunga stands high at 8,586 m (28,169) feet as the world’s third- highest mountain with its five main peaks. The first ascent by British Expedition, led by the late legendary Sir George Band, on May 25th, 1955.
From then on, Mt. Kanchenjunga is often climbed from its South Base Camp at Oktang and Tseram. Where our adventure leads is near its South Base Camp, and then heading towards the other side. To reach the North Base Camp at Pang Pema, the highest point of the journey. The beauty of Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking is venturing around remote and isolated areas with traditional farm villages. As the walk progresses, leaving behind far from human settlement towards the sheer wilderness of arid and barren landscapes.
Walking around fields of snow and glaciers, amidst giant mountains, a great contrast from green hills to arctic zone landscapes. The other charm of the trek is walking into lovely woods and villages festooned with age-old cultures. Walk along with great dramatic scenery of hills, valleys, and constant views of towering snow-capped peaks. Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking starts with a sweeping scenic flight to land at Nepal’s lowest flat land of the Terai belt.
Then an exciting overland journey towards the mid-hills, reaching Illam town, famous for its tea and vast sea of tea gardens. The drive ends at the starting point of trekking at Suketar or further, and then on a mountain trail. Walking past lovely villages and farms, crossing streams, and into dense forest to reach Tseram near Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. Having ample time to explore its scenic areas, and then adventure leads to the other northern side of Kanchenjunga. Crossing over the smaller passes of Mirgin, Sinion, and Sele-La to reach Ghunsa around lovely villages.
The higher side of Kanchenjunga is populated by mountain tribes, the Sherpa and Bhotias, of strong Buddhist culture. Slowly, our adventure takes you higher up towards the arid and barren mountainous country at Pang Pema. Where Kanchenjunga North Base Camp is located, at the highest point of the trek, facing the stupendous scenery of the massif Kanchenjunga peaks. After an enjoyable moment of great, marvelous experience, return journey on an alternative route to reach Suketar at Taplejung.
Our trek concludes with a drive to the low-land areas of Terai at Bhadrapur Airport. For a scenic short flight back to Kathmandu after a glorious adventure and wonderful experience on Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking.

Drive along a road from Taplejung to Ranipul via Mitlung and Tawa village. It takes 8 hours by jeep and an additional half-hour on foot to reach Sekathum and stay overnight at a teahouse.
From here, a new alternative route downhill allows you to explore more of this beautiful country with views of mountains and walk past several scattered cattle herder summer camps to reach Gyabla Phedi, in lower alpine areas, for an overnight stop. As you walk past a small nomadic settlement called Phole, The rest of the walk is into dense and beautiful forest to reach Gyabla from Ghunsa and 3 hours from Phole. Gyabla is a neat small village with some small houses, a few great teahouses, and a huge lodge with 40 rooms in it. There are high waterfalls in the distance, greenery everywhere, and some cultivated landscape.
We trek to the upper valley of Kanchanjing, where we can see the Mountion Range, buttful water fall, temple, forest, snowleped, blew sheep, and yak zoon.
After a lovely overnight stop at Ghunsa, a morning walk follows the valley floor beside the stream of Ghunsa Khola as trail-heads through scrubs of rhododendron and juniper bushes. You can overlook the terminal moraine of Mt. Jannu glacier ahead as the walk continues with a glimpse of snow-covered peaks. As you reach over a moraine to a small bridge, which gives access, cross over a river to reach a tiny grassy clearing called Rhambuk Kharka. The slopes above are subject to rockfalls and landslides; precautionary measures are needed to negotiate a steep traverse across a very large affected area. As you reach the safe side, enjoy views of Phole, Sobithonge, and Jannu peaks, which rise majestically above the mountains of Mt. Jannu glacier. Beyond the landslide, the trail levels, traverses the hillside, and finally descends to the small summer settlement of Kambachen for an overnight stop either in a small teahouse or camping. Mt. Jannu is well hidden from view from Kambachen, but the Sharphu group of peaks is visible at the head of a valley.
From here, the trail follows above a river for an hour and then heads further east. As the trail leads on rough but easy terrain, it continues along the along the west shore of the river as climbs lead into rocks and boulder areas leading to a terminal moraine of Kanchenjunga glacier. On leaving Ramtang Kharka (a Sheppard place), the trail joins Kanchenjunga glacier, and then crosses a junction of Lhonak and Kanchenjunga glaciers, overlooking grand views of Mera, Nepal Peak, and Wedge Peak.
As the day ends on a level sandy ground with some grass at Lhonak, enjoy the views of Wedge Peak and the snowy ramparts of Nepal and Tent Peaks, which present an ideal backdrop to the colorful sunset.
Today is our final destination towards Kanchenjunga North Base Camp at Pang-Pema, as well as the highest point of the adventure. A morning walk follows faint tracks on a shelf of lateral moraine and a source from Kanchenjunga glacier. The walk leads to stunning views of the Wedge, Nepal, Tent, and Pyramid peaks, all revealing together, including the Sharphu peaks that dominate the horizon down towards a valley. Hike continues to reach Pang-Pema with grand vistas of the North Face of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Yarlung Kang. Pang-Pema is located on a small hill above the shelf of a glacier. Enjoy the panoramic and breathtaking scenery. This great spot is adorned with Buddhist prayer flags on a large boulder with a small memorial plaque of an American climber, Chris Chandler. After a great and exciting day, retrace the journey back to
Lhonak.
A long day, but easy as you lose altitude every hour, and then back on the same scenic trail past Khambachen to Ghunsa village for an overnight stop after a long day and exciting walks.
We have a full day of rest in places like Gunsha, Bear, Londre, etc.
Trek to Sele-le Kharkha 6 hours of work, lunch, lunch and camping to reach back into a dense forest of rhododendrons and pines. As the walk reaches a nice level field close to the Ghunsa River,.
Another long day, and ready for an exciting day to cross three smaller passes, as the trek starts towards vertical uphill heading ahead of Tseram, climbing gains for nearly two hours to reach Chuchung Pokhari, a small icy pond. From here, it takes a few minutes to reach the top of Mirgin and Sinion-La Pass. The end of the toughest part of the climb. From the top, enjoy stunning 360-degree views of the highest snow-capped peaks to the north and east and endless horizons of foothills to the south and west. A great reward after a strenuous morning climb. From Sinion-La Pass, the walk is comparatively easy and gentle, crossing another last pass of Sele La.After a traverse over several passes, the trail slowly descends, with views of
Kumbakarna massif towering ahead of you, to reach Phedi for an overnight stop in a nice grassy field for camping or in a small tea house.
Overlooking views of snow-capped mountains as a walk follows the ever-widening riverbed and turns into an easy walk. Eventually, the terminal moraine of the Yalung Glacier comes into view, facing the peaks of Talung (7,349 m), Kabru (7,338 m), and Rathong (6,678 m), then at Tseram within a nice grassy area on a small terrace above the north bank of the river for overnight in a small lodge or camping.
A day in Tseram for a day hike, starting early in the in the morning with refreshing hot drinks being served. Then hit the trail, steeping up for a short while after an hour of hiking, as the route turns into a gentle slope and remains gradual till you reach Oktang Glacier. Some might feel slight headaches from the altitude.
A picnic lunch will be carried and served to you by staff once you reach Ramche, either on the way up or on the way down, depending on the group's progress. From Ramche, you make a further trek to South Base Camp to obtain views of the south face of Kanchenjunga. Beyond Ramche glacier diverts north and the corner is reached after an hour walk on a moderate-level path as you face Mt. Kanchenjunga. As you walk, head further for an hour that leads onto a lateral moraine of Yalung Glacier and to a Chorten. From here, enjoy the main summits of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Yalung Kang, and Kamgbachen Peak. After completing our first highlight destination, retrace back to Tseram for an overnight after a long day.
On the way down, trek to Torgtang, rhododendron, rhododendron and bamboo forest to reach Ramite, a place with a single hut. From here, our path leads to a climb within a rhododendron tree-covered ridge, passing towards a small pond on the right. The lower Lalung valley is thickly forested, and a good path follows the river northeast towards its source on the Yalung Glacier. Overlooking views of snow-capped mountains as a walk follows the ever-widening riverbed and turns into an easy walk. Eventually, the terminal moraine of the Yalung Glacier comes into view, facing the peaks of Talung (7,349 m), Kabru (7,338 m), and Rathong (6,678 m), then at Tseram, within a nice grassy area on a small terrace above the north bank of the river, for overnight in a small lodge or camping.
After a delicious breakfast in the teahouse at Ranipul, and take a lovely drive over rolling terraced hills and charming villages till we arrive in Taplejung, where we have lunch. After lunch, you can opt to drive further to Illam.
Drive up and Down Hill Town at Ilam, a place renowned for its best-flavored tea and its vast rolling hills of Tea Garden. It was an interesting drive to reach Ilam town for the last overnight stop around the hills of eastern Nepal. Herewith is time to wander around and observe the local culture of the eastern hill people of Nepal.
Explore the Ilam Tea Garden and the Illam village. Sometime we take a flight from the hotel to Kathmandu and overnight in Kathmandu hotel also.
As per the flight time for Kathmandu, drive downhill towards Nepal Terai flat land to Bhadrapur Airport, then wait for the plane to arrive from Kathmandu. Get on board the aircraft for a sweeping panoramic flight back to Kathmandu on arrival at Kathmandu airport. Transfer to your respective hotels after an amazing and wonderful experience on Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking.

We, whole family, were in Nepal from mid-March to early April. My 1st trekking holiday ever, right in Nepal! The Tsum Valley and the Manaslu Circuit with a pass crossing (5106 m!) was our goal and thanks to our unique guide Rajan Neupane with his many years of experience (knows all the accommodations and has a great network) everything worked out very well.
Perfect organization: from the moment we arrived in Kathmandu we didn’t have to worry about anything: sightseeing tour, accommodation, jeep/bus rides (an experience), food ❤️, day tours with adjustment to the altitude (perfect), medical care (everything included, great expertise, even with my knee problem after the downhill passages, Rajan helped me very sensitively and excellently). The whole time I felt very comfortable and very well looked after. In difficult passages for me (hanging bridges at the beginning, now no longer a problem, scree sections, snow fields (pass crossing) Rajan accompanied me firmly by the hand and with his positive energy.
Thank you again.
My most impressive moment was in the Tsum Valley, which is still very authentic, we were probably the first tourists for a long time since Corona, near Nyle: arrived in the drizzle in the evening (completely forgot that we were so close to the high mountains) and at 5 o’clock, bam! my view of my 1st 5000er, snow-covered at sunrise. Magical! I myself at 3,500 m, then it becomes completely normal. Otherwise we went skiing in the Alps, 3,000 m is super high there! Come again! My next destination is the EBC, Everst up close. Fall next year would be great.
Trekking in Nepal with Rajan is highly recommended!!!
Definitely would recommend going with this guide/company on one of the amazing treks there are in Nepal. We were in the Kanchenjunga area and couldn’t have wished for better hospitality, professionality and fun with these guys/guides!
Born in a small village of Nuwakot, began his career in the tourism industry as a porter which helped him to become a professional experienced guide and now operating RP Treks sincerely.
