RP Adventures presents Everest Base Camp via Gokyo & Cho-La Pass Trekking, wonderful adventures to experience. An exclusive journey around the most picturesque location of the high Khumbu Valley in the close shadow of Mt. Everest. This marvelous walk takes you to the hidden scenic valley of Gokyo with its crystal-clear glacial lakes.

Exploring the grand viewpoints to catch stunning views of the world’s highest peaks of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Overlooking the magnificent panorama of Gokyo Valley and the longest Ngozumpa glacier of Nepal and the whole Himalaya range. The adventure then leads towards the hidden corners of Thagnak and Dzongla remote isolated settlements crossing the high Cho-La Pass.

Then heading towards the final destination reaching the foot of the world’s highest peaks at Everest base camp. A great journey visiting both scenic areas of the high Khumbu Valley, traversing from beautiful Gokyo Valley towards Everest base camp.

Best Seasons for Everest Base Camp Via Gokyo & Cho-La Pass Trek

The best time and right seasons for this wonderful adventure are spring and autumn. The spring season begins from March to May when most days are full of sunshine. Where wildflowers are in seasonal bloom like the rhododendron of various species and colors, makes the hills lively. Sometimes the afternoon can get overcast with few showers, and cold mornings and nights as altitudes wise.

The next best season is autumn/fall starting from September to November, most days are fine and crystal clear. For views and pleasant walks, but cold morning, late afternoon, and nighttime. Can expect snowfall above 2,800 m sometimes. Interested people can enjoy this trek during the wintertime of the Christmas and New Year holidays. Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel - 1,300m

    On arrival at Kathmandu, Nepal International Airport check the Nepal Standard Time, which is 5 hours and 45 minutes ahead of GMT. Outside the air terminal our staff from RP Adventures will greet and receives you for short drive to your hotels.The hotel located in the hub of Kathmandu, on arrival check into your lovely rooms. Then meet with other members of the trek for briefing regarding Gokyo Lake Trekking. After collecting all the useful information and trek details, evening a group welcome dinner in nice authentic Nepal Restaurants an introduction to Nepali foods and cultures.

  • Day 02: Fly to Lukla 2, 846 m and trek to Phakding 2,610m - 04 hrs

    Early morning as for the short flight to Lukla, depart from the hotel on boarding the small aircraft. The plane takes you high above Kathmandu facing stunning views of Himalayan peaks with panorama of Kathmandu valley. After a short flight then landing on a unique runways of Lukla Tenzing & Hillary Airport.At Lukla having time for refreshing break, then start the pleasant walk down to follow the Dudh Koshi River. The walk continues past several villages to reach Phakding for overnight halt, located on a gorge next to Dudh Koshi River.

  • Day 03: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440m / 11, 350 feet - 06 hrs

    From Phakding to famous Namche Bazaar, quite a long day walk of about 6 hours.The distance is not too far, but the rise altitude gain makes the walk and climb slow. The trail follows to cross a long bridge to Monjo village at Sagarmatha National Park entrance. After the park a slow and easy to cross another bridge to Jorsalle, the last settlement before Namche Bazaar. Stopping for lunch at Jorsalle, afternoon walk leads to a high bridge and then on undulating winding ups to Namche Bazaar for two overnights.

  • Day 04: At Namche for acclimatization and a short scenic hike 3450m - 05 hrs

    A perfect spot and height for acclimatization, enjoy the day taking short hike to the view-points. Where there is a nice museum to collect information of Khumbu Sherpa history and cultures. As well as of flora / fauna and mountaineering History. The high ridge offers grand views of Mt. Everest with adjoining famous Peaks. For energetic people can hike to Everest View Hotel a climb of few hour a great place for views of Everest enjoying cup of warm refreshment. Rest of the afternoon relax and explore Namche Bazaar main streets, lined with Shops, stores, restaurants; and bakeries with fancy hotels and lodge.

  • Day 05: Trek to Dole 4,110m- 06 hrs

    The adventure continues from Namche Bazaar heading higher trail, facing grand views of towering snow peaks. The walk leads on winding scenic path and then our route diverts from the main trail of Namche to Everest Base Camp.The climb leads up reaching on top Mong Hill facing glorious views of Everest, Ama Dablam and range of peaks. From the top ridge of Mong, a short downhill walk to Phortse Tenga for lunch stop. Located on Dudh Koshi River gorge amidst lovely cool forest of pines and rhododendron. Afternoon few hours walk uphill into a gorge and dense tree lines to reach Dole for overnight halt.

  • Day 06: Trek to Machhermo 4, 400m - 04 hrs

    A short and easy walk to Machhermo, except for the rise in altitude and steep climb above Dole. After a short uphill, rest of the walk on gradual path, an open country facing views of Mt. Cho-Oyu. The trail follows past Luza small settlement, then downhill to a stream covered in willow and populus.The only tree species that survives on cold and high altitude, from the stream a short up to Machhermo for lunch and overnight halt. Enjoy the afternoon with leisure walks and marveling the views of close snow-capped peaks.

  • Day 07: Trek to Gokyo Lake 4,800m - 04 hrs

    Another short day to Gokyo Lake our main highlight destination. Morning from Machhermo a short steep climb and back on an exposed ridge top, and trek on gradual path. The trail leads far above Dudh Koshi River to reach a small, isolated Tea-House at Panga. After a short rest walk towards a rocky trail covered in few green vegetation and bushes. As climb leads on stone steps to reach the first and then second lakes and finally reaching at Gokyo. The place with main 3 rd lakes, where all nice lodges are located above the lake shore line. Enjoy the afternoon checking into a fine room, after lunch enjoy short hike around the lake. Marvel the grand views of Mt. Cho-Oyu with an array of peaks that surrounds the Gokyo valley and the lakes.

  • Day 08: Climb Gokyo-Ri, afternoon walk to Thagnak - 4,760m - 04 hrs

    Rise early morning and start the hike across the lake with climb for few hours reaching on top Gokyo-Ri. Enjoy the stunning sunrise over chain of Himalayan peaks, includes views of 4 world’s highest peaks. Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Mt. Cho-Oyu with an array of peaks that surrounds the Gokyo Lake and the valley. Return to Gokyo for breakfast and lunch, afternoon walk on gradual path beneath Ngozumpa glacier to Thagnak for overnight stop. Located at the base of Cho-La pass, at Thagnak preparation for next morning climb to cross Cho-La Pass.

  • Day 09: Cross Cho-La pass 5,420 m trek to Dzongla 4,750m - 08 hrs

    Start the climb as early as possible for the long day of the adventure, carrying packed lunch. Climb on rocky ledge with few steep sections, and then reach on top of Cho-La pass. The pass is well hidden by towering Cholatse and Nirekha with Lobuche peaks. After a refreshing stop, walk downhill towards eastern side of Khumbu valley to Dzongla for overnight halt. A small settlement situated off from the main trail, with stunning views of Cholatse peaks and its small glacial pond.

  • Day 10: Trek to Lobuche 4,900m - 05 hrs

    From Dzongla a short day walk to Lobuche, after an hour walk joining on the main trail of Everest base camp. On reaching the main path, an easy slow up to Lobuche for overnight in one its nice lodge. Located west end of a wide valley with several good lodges facing grand views of Nuptse peak.

  • Day 11: Trek to Everest Base Camp 5,364m and back to Gorakshep 5,180m - 06 hrs

    Today adventure leads to our dream destination towards Everest Base Camp, rising early for another long day. But easier than crossing Cho-La Pass, having breakfast, walk follows north with short steep climb. As walk continues over moraine of rocks and ice above Khumbu glacier and then down to Gorakshep. A small place with several nice lodges, located beneath Mt. Pumori andKalapathar Hill. As well en route to Everest base camp, after a short rest, continue walk heading east following a rocky path.Then finally reaching at the base camp on the foot of towering Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse. Enjoy the awesome dramatic scenery of arctic like landscapes filled with rocky moraine of rocks, ice and snow. Includes close views of massif Khumbu Ice fall just above the base camp. After a great wonderful experience back to Gorakshep for overnight, and for the last steep climb to Kalapathar hill top.

  • Day 12: Climb Kalapathar 5,643m / 18,514 ft. Trek to Pangboche 4,000m - 08 hrs

    Another early morning start for the big climb to the top of Kalapathar, a few hour up. Enjoy the stupendous panoramic views of surrounding towering mountain range with Mt. Everest at a close distance. After a mesmerizing adventure overlooking breathtaking scenery, downhill to Gorakshep and continue walk down to Pheriche Valley past Lobuche. Having a refreshing lunch stop at Pheriche afternoon walk on gradual down and ups to a small ridge top. From the top, downhill to Pangboche village for overnight stop in a nice cosy Lodge with views of Ama Dablam.

  • Day 13: Trek to Kyang-Jima 3, 650 m via Tengboche 3,900m - 06 hrs

    Morning facing majestic views of Mt. Ama Dablam, Pangboche is located on the main route of Ama Dablam base camp. From Pangboche down to Imjatse River and then climb for an hour more to Tengboche. Enjoy the magnificent views of surrounding mountain scenery, and visit the monastery of great cultural and religious interest. From Tengboche head downhill to a river at Phunki Tenga and then short up to Shanasha village. Slowly the long day ends on reaching Kyang- Jima, a small nice settlement with few good lodges. Staying overnight on apeaceful location facing grand views of Everest, Ama Dablam and Tharmasarku Peaks.

As the plane arrives from Kathmandu, and then board on a smaller aircraft for sweeping flight to Kathmandu.On reaching at Kathmandu Airport domestic terminal, and then transfer back to your hotels, having a free afternoon for individual activities.

    The trip cost depends on the itinerary set by RP Adventures. Standard accommodation includes nice rooms with good food. However, clients can upgrade the lodge standard upon request, where available. Accommodations from Namche Bazaar to Gokyo and Dzongla are simple, with common toilets. Lodges after Pangboche offer better options with attached or common toilets and bathing facilities.
  • How is the food availability on the Gokyo and Everest Base Camp trek?

    Trekkers will be surprised to find a long list of food menu options on the Gokyo and Everest Base Camp trek. These include Tibetan, Nepali, Indian, and Chinese dishes, as well as Continental cuisine. Most lodges offer snacks and drinks to delight customers, and some also provide fresh bakery products.
