About Langtang Valley

Nestled in the Rasuwa district of Nepal’s Bagmati province, the Langtang Valley lies about 80 km north of the Kathmandu Valley. It is part of Langtang National Park, which borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Before the 2015 earthquake, the valley was home to around 700 residents.

The Langtang Valley was opened to foreign trekkers in 1970, initially requiring camping. Today, the area offers comfortable accommodations and delicious food. Known as one of Nepal’s most expansive valley treks, Langtang is rich in biodiversity, with yaks, red pandas, snow leopards, and a variety of bird species.

The region is also renowned for its Tamang heritage. The inhabitants, primarily from the Tamang and Lama ethnic groups, practice Tibetan Buddhism and follow the teachings of Guru Padmasambhava. The area is famous for its yak cheese, a project supported by a Swiss organization to benefit local communities. Langtang is a region where mountains, rivers, lakes, and culture harmonize with diverse wildlife, making it a paradise for trekkers and a celebration of Nepalese natural beauty and cultural charm.

Kyanjin Ri Langtang

In October 2023, my friend and I visited Langtang with Rajan. I had gotten to know him through one of my friends, and I have no regrets as he was truly a good person and guide. He took care of us throughout the trip. Everything was well planned, yet he was so flexible when we asked him to change some plans. He is a guide who can be trusted.
