Barah Kshetra is a popular Hindu pilgrimage site located about 20 kilometers away from Dharan, where the Sapta Koshi and Koka Waterways meet. It’s dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu and is situated at the meeting point of four districts: Sunsari, Dhankuta, Udayapur, and Bhojpur in Nepal. The temple’s sculptures date back to the fifth century and hold great religious significance for Hindus.
Legend has it that Vishnu, in the form of a boar, defeated the demon Hiranyakashyapu here. There’s a unique stone near the temple that acts as a test – if someone can lift it without being corrupt, it’s considered a positive sign. The temple is usually open throughout the year for religious activities.
Various festivals such as Poush Aaushi, Ram Navami, Basanta Panchami, Holi, and New Year are celebrated with great fervor here. The area is known for its scenic beauty, attracting not just religious pilgrims but also tourists interested in the rich cultural heritage of Nepal.
