Introduction

The Annapurna Circuit Short Trek is a 12-day trekking adventure that circles the stunning Mount Annapurna in the Himalayas. Traditionally, the Annapurna Circuit hike spans at least 20 days. However, we have streamlined this journey, reducing it to 12 days while following the same breathtaking path. This trek is perfect for those eager to swiftly cross Thorung La, the world’s highest mountain pass, and immerse themselves in the spectacular Annapurna Himalayan region. It’s one of the most condensed itineraries available for this incredible hike.

Due to the demanding nature of high pass hiking and the need for physical fitness at high altitudes, we recommend this 12-day trek for those with some prior experience.

Best Time for Annapurna Circuit Short Trek

From June to early September, Nepal experiences monsoon season, characterized by heavy rainfall and increased risk of rock and mudslides on the trails. Spring, between mid-March and mid-April, sees the rhododendron forests in bloom, but this period is also wet and leeches can be a nuisance at lower elevations. The ideal times for the Annapurna Circuit Trek are from mid-March to May and from mid-September to November.

Difficulties of Annapurna Circuit Short Trek

The Annapurna Circuit Short Trek is moderately difficult. It can be particularly challenging for first-time high-altitude trekkers, as it reaches over 5000 meters above sea level. A month of preparation involving cardio or daily hikes can make the trek more enjoyable and manageable. Mental and physical preparation is essential to build endurance and ensure a successful high-altitude trek.

Trekking Route for Annapurna Circuit Short Trek

The Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is an alternative route to the classic Annapurna Circuit Trek, known for its scenic beauty. The trek starts and ends in Kathmandu.

  2. Dharapani to Chame: Continue trekking through forested trails to the village of Chame.
  3. Chame to Pisang: Trek through dense jungles and past a long mani wall to reach the ancient village of Pisang.
  4. Pisang to Manang: Gear up for a strenuous trek with breathtaking mountain views as you make your way to Manang via Ngawal.
  5. Manang to Lyadar: Trek through the vast region of Manang to Lyadar, where you will acclimatize for the high-altitude trek ahead.
  6. Lyadar to Thorong La Pass (5416m): Cross the challenging Thorong La Pass and bask in the glory of Mount Dhaulagiri, one of the trek’s highlights.
  7. Thorong La Pass to Muktinath: Descend to the sacred Hindu temple of Muktinath.
  8. Muktinath to Pokhara: Drive from Muktinath to Pokhara, a popular tourist destination. Relax and explore the vibrant nightlife of Pokhara.
  9. Return to Kathmandu: Drive back to Kathmandu, concluding your trek.

Can I see wild honey hives in this trek?

You can see mad honey hives on the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The Himalayan giant honeybee (Apis laboriosa) is known to build its hives on the steep cliffs of the region, and these can often be spotted along the trek. The potential spots for viewing honey hives are Jagat to Dharapani, Chame to Pisang and Braga village. However, in order to spot the hive, you may need binoculars and local guides.

The Short Annapurna Circuit Trek offers a diverse and rewarding experience, showcasing the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Annapurna region.
