Valmiki Ashram sanctuary is located in Nepal’s Chitwan region, specifically in the Madi district 1. It’s close to Triveni Dham, where the Tamasa, Sona, and Sapta Gandaki rivers meet. Getting there isn’t easy because there’s no direct route from Nepal. You have to cross the Gandak bridge, which connects Nawalparasi in Nepal to India, to reach Valmiki Ashram. Indian Border Security Forces closely monitor this area, and there’s also the risk of encountering wild animals.
Maharishi Valmiki, associated with Lord Rama of the Treta Yuga, attained enlightenment through meditation at Valmiki Ashram. It’s believed that he composed the Ramayana during his stay here. Legend has it that after Rama’s exile during the Treta Yuga, Sita, for the second time, sought refuge here and gave birth to Lava and Kusha.
Valmiki’s Ashram is considered a significant pilgrimage site for Indians due to its association with Maharishi Valmiki, Sita, Lava, and Kusha. Many relics connected to them are preserved here. Even the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, India, have visited this place. King Mahendra brought several families and settlements here and looked after the temple’s development. Currently, 14 families reside here.
