The Tsum Valley trek combined with the Manaslu Circuit trek is a captivating journey that takes adventurers through the remote regions of Nepal, showcasing a blend of rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural beauty. This combined trek allows you to experience the unique culture of the Tsum Valley while also circling the magnificent Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain. Here’s an overview of what this 23-day trek from Kathmandu back to Kathmandu entails.

Please note that some of the altitudes and village names have been adjusted for accuracy. This itinerary provides a comprehensive trekking experience, combining cultural insights and natural wonders, from majestic mountains like Manaslu (8,163 m), Himchuli, and Nadichuli to the serene beauty of the Tsum Valley and the challenging Larkya La Pass. Enjoy the journey.

Duration and Difficulty

Duration: The combined trek usually takes about 23 days, depending on the chosen route, pace, and whether you include rest days for acclimatization and exploration.

Difficulty: This trek is considered difficult due to its length, altitude, and remote trails. It involves walking for several hours daily, often on steep and rugged terrain. Proper acclimatization days are essential to mitigate the risk of altitude sickness.

Best Time to Trek

Autumn (September to November): Clear skies, stable weather, and moderate temperatures make this the best time for trekking.

Spring (March to May): Another favorable period with warmer weather, fewer chances of rain than in autumn, and the trails are adorned with blooming flowers, especially rhododendrons.

Attractions Of Manaslu Trek

Scenic Trails:The trek takes you through diverse landscapes, from lush forests and terraced fields to high-altitude deserts and glacial zones.

Experience: The Tsum Valley, also known as the “hidden valley,” offers a glimpse into the unique culture and traditions of the Tsumbas, with its ancient monasteries, chortens, and mani walls.

Manaslu Conservation Area: The trek circles the Manaslu mountain, offering spectacular views of Manaslu and other Himalayan giants. The region is home to rich biodiversity, including rare species like the snow leopard.

Larkya La Pass: Crossing the Larkya La Pass (5,106 meters or 16,752 feet) is a highlight and also one of the most challenging parts of the trek, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers.

Remote and Less Crowded:Compared to the more popular Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit treks, the Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit treks see fewer tourists, offering a more serene and authentic experience.

Permits and Regulations

Restricted Area Permits: Both Tsum Valley and Manaslu are in restricted areas. Trekkers need special permits to enter these regions.

Conservation Area Permit: A Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) permit is required.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Required if the trek extends into parts of the Annapurna region.

Guide/Porter: Hiring a licensed guide or being part of an organized trek is mandatory due to the remote and restricted nature of the trek.

Preparation

Physical Fitness: Due to the trek’s demanding nature, being in good physical condition is crucial. Engage in cardiovascular and strength training exercises well before your trek.

Gear and Equipment: Essential items include a good pair of hiking boots, a sleeping bag suitable for high altitudes, warm clothing, a first-aid kit, and a water purification method.

Acclimatization: Plan your itinerary with adequate acclimatization days to avoid altitude sickness.

Combining the Tsum Valley with the Manaslu Circuit trek offers an unforgettable adventure through some of Nepal’s most pristine and culturally rich regions. With proper preparation and respect for local customs and the environment, trekkers are sure to have a rewarding experience.
